Trisagion Service for Bishop Athanasios

Trisagion Service for Bishop Athanasios

As part of his pastoral visit to Kenya, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa visited the Holy Diocese of Kisumu, where he was warmly welcomed by His Grace Bishop Philipos, the clergy, and the faithful. The visit took place on the Saturday of Souls, a special day in the Orthodox Church dedicated to prayerful remembrance of departed faithful Christians. During his visit, His Beatitude presided over the Trisagion Memorial Service in memory of the late Bishop Athanasios of blessed memory, honoring his life, ministry, and enduring contribution to the growth of Orthodoxy in western Kenya. The memorial service provided an opportunity for clergy and faithful to reflect on the remarkable legacy left by Bishop Athanasios, whose dedication and missionary vision helped lay a strong foundation for the Church in the region. His tireless efforts in evangelization, parish development, clergy formation, and pastoral care continue to bear fruit long after his repose in the Lord.

Addressing the clergy following the service, His Beatitude emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the Church and remaining steadfast in the Orthodox faith. He encouraged priests and church leaders to remain close to their bishop and faithful to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, noting that unity and obedience are essential for safeguarding the teachings, traditions, and mission of the Church. The Patriarch further reminded the clergy not to forget Bishop Athanasios in their prayers, recognizing him as one of the pioneers who helped establish and strengthen Orthodox Christianity in the Diocese. He noted that the continued growth of the Church stands as a testimony to the sacrifices and commitment of those who labored before us.

The visit served as both a moment of remembrance and a source of encouragement for the Diocese as it continues its mission under the leadership of Bishop Philipos. The presence of His Beatitude reaffirmed the close relationship between the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Orthodox faithful of Kenya, while strengthening the bonds of faith and fellowship among clergy and laity alike.
